Gerald F. Kennedy, DVM

Dr. G.F. Kennedy DVM is a full time practicing food animal veterinarian specializing in sheep and goats and servicing several large sow farms and their owners. A 1960 graduate of Iowa State University he has practiced in Pipestone, Minnesota since that time. He and wife Deb farm with partner Garry Gorter and have 300 registered or recorded Katahdin females. On a national level, Dr Kennedy has been involved with other breeds of sheep, Dorper, Rambouillet and Suffolk, currently serving as a board member of the Katahdin Association, serves on the ASI Health committee and in the past, served as a board member of the Dorper Associaation. Sheep work has always been a major part of Dr. Kennedy’s practice, starting with large feed lots and later with ewe flocks as a result of the Pipestone Lamb and Wool Program- – a program he helped to develop. He has been involved in all aspects of practice, auction market work, dairy, beef, swine and goats and at one time some companion animal. Dr. Kennedy is a co fonder of the Pipestone System, a integrated swine production system owned by its farmer members involving 140,000 sows that result in the marketing of 3.5 million pigs that are owned and fed on the farmer owners farms. He was managing partner of PAB a leader in swine semen production for 18 years. He was lead veterinarian on large exports of dairy cattle to China and Indonesia. As a production veterinarian, Dr. Kennedy sees the world through his own eyes, not through a microscope. This approach has lead him develop specialized products for the industry. He likes sheep and goat people and he likes sheep and goats. The clinic from which he works, Pipestone, has found a niche. They are often able to help the sheep and goat producer when no one else can. Through their supply catalog they serve the entire United States and parts of Canada. They have clients with from as few as two sheep to as many as 20,000. The clinic answers questions daily via telephone and Dr Kennedy answers questions 24/7 at gkennedy@pipevet.com. He is also on Facebook – Pipestone Vet Sheep-Goats. The Facebook site is where he posts the most relevant sheep and goat questions and answers. It is not interactive, that would be the E-Mail site. Dr Kennedy has received the Camp Tender award from ASI, is a member of the Minnesota Agricultural Hall of Fame and the Pipestone Lamb and Wool Programs Hall of Fame.

This year we are pleased and honored to have join us Dr. G.F. Kennedy from the Pipestone Veterinary Clinic in Pipestone, Minnesota.

Our program is planned to be a bit different this year. In addition to our customary evening dinner and meeting, we will host a daytime seminar with Dr. Kennedy. The event will take place at Time and Space Limited in Hudson, NY with the dinner meeting to follow.
